Kids know more than we think.

Little Oak helps them understand.

Our Mission

Our deepest purpose is to help children who require medical care, especially those with complex medical conditions or illnesses, understand and navigate their health. Our aspiration is to turn the unknown, along with the fear and anxiety it can create, into a positive and emboldening experience. We believe this builds a strong foundation for active participation in and ownership of their care. We provide educational resources and tangible support for patients and their families – presented as kid-friendly, easy to understand, and easy to use – so they can flourish.

Founding Beliefs

We believe:

  • Children know more than we give them credit for, especially when it comes to their health. Our job is to help them understand it, in a way that makes sense to them.

  • It is a disservice to kids with medical conditions, chronic or acute, to assume they cannot or do not understand their health or do not have a need to understand their medical care.

We know:

  • Giving patients and their families the tools to understand their health early, supports their growth and development - making them a partner and active participants in their care from an early age.

  • The necessary, required medical care many children need can be a positive and empowering experience – for everyone involved. It does not have to be unknown, scary, and traumatic.

We will work so:

  • Every person understands their healthcare, in a way that means something to them and meets them where they are, regardless of their age, diagnosis, complexity of their condition, gender identity, race, ethnicity, income, geography, sexual orientation, or ability.

  • Educational resources and support are accessible and equitable for all patients and their families.

  • All children who require medical care, and their families, can flourish.
